Summary
This policy applies to Gig for iPadOS and its Apple Watch companion. Gig is a sheet music reader and performance tool for PDFs, Guitar Pro files, companion audio/MIDI files, annotations, notes, setlists, practice tracking, MIDI control and optional face gesture navigation.
- Gig does not require user accounts.
- Gig does not operate its own analytics, advertising or tracking service.
- Your imported files and musical data are stored locally on your device.
- Data leaves Gig only when you choose to share, export, back up or contact support.
Data Stored Locally
Gig stores the information needed to provide its music-reading and performance features. This may include imported PDFs, Guitar Pro files, MusicXML, MIDI, audio companions, annotations, drawings, notes, bookmarks, tags, setlists, MIDI mappings, practice sessions, Watch settings and app preferences.
This information is stored on your device using iPadOS app storage, SwiftData, UserDefaults and the app group storage needed for companion experiences such as widgets and Apple Watch state. Gig does not upload this library to a Gig-owned server.
Sharing, Import and Export
When you import files, open files from another app or export Gig bundle files, you choose the source or destination through iPadOS sharing and document interfaces. Exported bundles can include the score, metadata, notes, drawings, bookmarks, MIDI settings, beat marks, tags and companion files you selected to export.
If you send files to another app, cloud provider, AirDrop recipient or storage location, that destination handles the file under its own privacy policy and terms.
Optional Features
Face Gestures (Optional)
Face Gestures is an optional, off-by-default feature in Settings. If you
enable it, Gig uses Apple's ARKit face tracking
(ARFaceTrackingConfiguration) on the front-facing camera to
detect three configurable page-turn gestures: smile left/right, head turn
left/right, or wink left/right.
What Gig reads. When Face Gestures is active, Gig reads
only a small set of normalized expression values exposed by ARKit's
ARFaceAnchor: mouth-smile-left, mouth-smile-right,
eye-blink-left, eye-blink-right, and the head yaw angle. Each value is a
single number representing expression intensity. Gig does not
read, record, or capture any image, video frame, depth map, facial geometry,
Face ID-style biometric template, or any data that could identify you.
What Gig does with it. The values are processed on your device in real time, compared against thresholds to detect a gesture, used to turn a page in the score reader, and immediately discarded. They are never sent over the network and never written to disk.
Sharing & third parties. Gig does not share face data with anyone. No face information is sent to Gig's developer, to Apple, or to any third-party service. All processing is on-device only.
Retention. Gig does not retain face data. The only value that persists between sessions is an optional, anonymous calibration baseline — two floating-point numbers averaging your neutral mouth-smile intensity — stored locally on your device in app preferences so the gesture thresholds match your face. This baseline contains no image, no biometric template, and cannot be used to identify you.
Control. You can disable Face Gestures at any time in Settings, which immediately stops all face tracking and camera use. Camera access is also revocable from iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera at any time.
Apple Watch Companion
If you enable Apple Watch support, Gig sends lightweight performance state between your iPad and paired Apple Watch, such as current title, page progress, live mode state, BPM and remote commands. Gig does not send PDFs, drawings, annotations, audio files or full score files to the Watch through this live state.
MIDI Devices
Gig can remember MIDI device choices and send MIDI commands you configure. Those settings are stored locally and are used to control the devices you select.
Apple Services
Apple may collect and provide developers with App Store sales, download, crash and diagnostic information, depending on your device settings and Apple's policies. Gig receives that information from Apple in aggregated or diagnostic form and does not use it to identify you.
Your device may also include Gig data in iCloud backups or other Apple backup services if those features are enabled on your device. Apple controls those services, storage locations and account policies.
Third-Party Services
Gig does not include third-party advertising SDKs. If you use system sharing, Files, cloud storage providers, email, messaging apps or other destinations to import or export content, those services may process the files and information you choose to send to them.
Children's Privacy
Gig is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a support request, please contact us so we can delete it when appropriate.
Direct Contact
If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message content, screenshots, diagnostics or sample files. We use that information to answer your request, troubleshoot problems and improve Gig. We do not sell support contact information.
Changes
We may update this policy as Gig changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page and revise the policy to describe the current app behavior.
